This is one of my favourite flowers and I have 4 different varieties of poppies. Here is the orange one which started flowering yesterday, I think they’ve struggled with the weather a bit recently as some have no buds at all so far and others far fewer than normal
Continuing in my series of firsts in the garden here is my beautiful dark pink rhododendron that only came out a few days ago
My friend and I visited Arley Hall Gardens in Cheshire today to do a guided Bluebell walk through the woods. It was an unusually hot day for the time of year but the right weather for our walk and we both really enjoyed it. After lunch we also visited the rest of the gardens and here are some of my pictures. I hadn’t been at this time of year before so it was nice to see some different things flowering, such as the tulips (my favourite spring bulb), wallflowers, pansies, the magnolias and so much more. Lots of new things to show you so thought I’d do one update with them all.
I love this time of year, when the garden is full of colour especially forget-me-nots and something different catches your eye every time you go outside. My seeds in the greenhouse are doing well as are the plants I overwintered – dahlias, pelargoniums (I only have a couple in pots – don’t grow many as I try to concentrate on bee friendly plants), and tender fuchsias.
I have also bought some new plants – a pink for my little owl planter, a perennial wallflower (which smells lovely) and a tiarella (relative of the heuchera I think).
I have also included my favourite tulip Jan Reus of which I originally had 10 and only have these left. They are such a lovely dark red colour but very hard to get in the shops. There is a picture of a wallflower grown from seed by me and a pieris from the back garden.
There is so much currently flowering in the garden that I thought I’d do one big post.
Every time I go out something new has come out, our garden really comes into its own at the beginning of spring – bulbs, forget-me-nots, pasque flowers, trees blossoming, oh and the weeds. We have a theory there is a ‘weed of the year’ each year which outgrows the rest. I don’t really try and get aquatinted with weed names, just get them out when see them. This year is a white flowered spindly thing – quite petty actually! I may photograph it for you below!I have removed the winter insulation for the greenhouse this week as it’s been so warm. My free seeds from BBC gardeners world magazine are doing well but the others I dosed recently have not bothered to come up at all.

Lastly the picture of ‘weed of the year’. A little clump of last nights findings – they get everywhere 
This first one isn’t actually ours but we have a lovely view of it from our back garden. It’s magnolia stilata. The second is ours! I’m not really a tree person but I love the blossom on these in my favourite colours in the garden – pink and white
