RHS Chatsworth Flower Show 2018

Today my friend and I had a lovely day out at the RHS Chatsworth Flower show in Derbyshire, UK today. Fortunately, after visiting the first floral marquee we could find it stopped raining and was a good day for looking at gardens. This is the second year of this flower show and for me it was better this year, better organised and laid out and more organised. There were little flower displays outside most trade stands which were lovely. There was also a bio-dome type building that reminded me of the Eden Project in Cornwall. I loved the vast majority of the show gardens due to them being my favourite plant colours – white, pink and purple and a little red.

I only bought one plant – a white (hopefully) Delphinium – it was sold to me unnamed so we are unsure of the colour – but it should be a pale colour and will fit where I want to plant it whatever pale colour it turns out to be.

I’m not really good at reviewing shows so I will just present the pictures I have taken – I hope you like them and that they reflect the flower show.

RHS Flower Show Tatton Park 2017

This is the third flower show I’ve been to and I think the last for the year. It is the most local to me and one where I often buy plants – 3 this year. I will probably blog about them separately but I got a Penstemon, an Echinacea, and a Gaillardia.

I think we saw all the show gardens, back-to-back, school gardens and the County council gardens of which there are less every year. We also managed the massive floral marquee. In general I loved the vast majority of gardens this year, those very colourful and those that are more relaxed with paler colours.

Here are my pictures, I hope you enjoy them and that it might encourage you to visit the show another year. Always a great day out.

Each year I think there is a flower of the year which appears throughout the whole flower show. This year I actually think there were 2 – both bulbs and properly from the same plant family – Alliums and Agapanthus (I have the latter growing in my garden – a picture of which was on my last blog #wordlesswednesday a day late!

BBC Gardeners World Live Show 2017

Today I went with a lovely lady from church to the BBC Gardeners World live show in Birmingham NEC. For any overseas readers I should maybe explain BBC Gardeners World is a weekly gardening programme with a magazine and this year celebrates its 50th birthday. We had an interesting trip to the show, in that we couldn’t get off the train at the correct stop as the doors shut just as we got to them and so we had to travel a further stop on, get off and get a train back to the correct station. Fortunately we didn’t have to pay anything extra but it did take up about 45mins we could have been at the show.

Its pretty similar to RHS Chelsea flower show in that there are show gardens and many stalls and a couple of flower marquees. There are also a couple of theatre set ups for ‘celebrity’ gardeners such as Monty Don and Carol Klein to speak and we heard Carol Klein today. The BBC Good Food show (another magazine) was on today as well at the same venue although most of it was very expensive. We did enjoy some samples of cheese and sausages though.

Here are some of my pictures from the show gardens and floral marquee.
