My passion in life is gardening and specifically growing flowers from seed

June 2025 in my garden

After a good few months of very dry weather and our many water butts emptying rapidly the rain seems to have started and forgotten to stop. The garden is grateful though and has been growing away although I have to say my foxgloves seem to have stunted growth this year and aren’t as tall as expected which is a shame as I plant them at the back of the border. I have lots of things flowering and here are some pictures – a lot of white and also pink.

Seed sowing March 2021

I started my seed sowing in the greenhouse today. Sunflowers which I haven’t grown for a long time, Tithonia which are new to me. I think Monty Don on BBC Gardeners world grows them and I always like them so thought I would give them a go. Also some poppies probably more than I wanted as the seeds are tiny!

First poppies

Every day in my garden at the moment something new is flowering, it’s such an exciting season, I love poppies and 3 out of 5 of them have started flowering today

Poppies – my favourite early summer flower

Just a quick post about my favourite flower of this season the poppy. Theses are specifically the papaver – the perennial plant although I love the annuals and self sowen one too.

This year I bought a new red one to replace one that died last year. That is the first picture. The flowers are like paper and don’t last long but are lovely all the same and  an occasionally flower twice in the year if cut back and the weather is right!

The others are purple, orange, peach and white. All beautiful plants and so easy to look after.
