These must be one of the highlights of my garden currently and are in the replacement bed (by the front door) of the original Wendy’s wonderland garden. The name of this blog. Although the blog actually refers to the whole garden. I do have a white delphinium elsewhere and would definitely like more. As long as I don’t let the slugs at them when they first appear all is good and they need staking when tall.
I have just returned home from a week away and my garden has literally taken off while I’ve been gone. So many new things flowering and even my seeds in the greenhouse have come on so well. Must be all that rain we’ve had. I’ve been able to spend a little time tidying up and planting some things out a bit late but the weather was poor before I left! Here’s what’s currently flowering in my garden
I was feeling quite left out seeing lots of pictures online of roses flowering but tonight I’ve noticed ours are too! Hoorah. The first is called ‘hot chocolate’ and is relatively new with a gorgeous scent, not of chocolate I have to say. Good job as I’d want to eat it! But I really don’t see the point of roses without scent!
This last one is also relatively new and called Nostalgia. Again with a lovely scent and it’s not quite out yet but has lots of lovely new growth
Every day in my garden at the moment something new is flowering, it’s such an exciting season, I love poppies and 3 out of 5 of them have started flowering today
Another post in my series of firsts. My sweet William, all grown from seed and I keep sowing more as I thought they were biennials but they keep flowering every year so don’t need replacing. 2 different types. I prefer the first ones 
I planted these sweet peas (grown from seed I have collected from previous years so not sure of the variety) late April. A bit early I guess but they were getting too big to stay in the greenhouse. I think it actually started flowering a couple of weeks ago but I’ve only just got round to taking pictures 
On the way back to our hotel from Keukenhof gardens last week we stopped off at a bulb stall and I bought some Uncle Tom tulips – they are darkish red doubles (picture below). I was told to plant them when we got home and they would flower in about 6 weeks. I got round to it today and although there were supposed to be 10 there was only 9 and some were mouldy. I’ve planted them and hope they come up in June!
I have been wanting to visit these gardens and tulip fields for a number of years as I love tulips and this year I finally got there. Apparently the display is never the same twice and once the 6/7 week opening season is finished they close and dig up each of the 7 million tulips and plant new for the following season. I would not fancy this job. Sadly, it was a cold, wet and windy day with sunny intervals. All pictures are taken on the same day although it properly doesn’t look like it. I think I loved them all but particularly a section which is rainbow themed and looks at different ways of container planting without plastic which is fascinating and I like the wicker basket idea! We went on a cruise of the canal beside the tulip fields first and then onto walk around the amazing gardens. I hope you enjoy the pictures, I took lots but I think these are the best.
This is my favourite time of year when everything is growing, blossoming and the evenings are lighter longer every day but it’s not hot. I am not a fan of extremes of weather, whether hot or cold!
I have sweetpea and cosmos seeds coming up in the greenhouse and more to sow.
